Character Select

--

My fantastical take on how it seems that everyone in life has an addiction, as if they were forced upon us. The reality, however, is that although they can eat us up in a myriad number of ways, we need our addictions to make life liveable.

Welcome to life. You will need create your character before you may begin. First, choose your sex.

Male.

Now you must choose the socio-economic status you will be born into: a guaranteed middle-class life or the chance to live an upper-class life. Please note if you choose the latter option, that there is an even higher chance that you will be born into a low-class family. Choosing this option also subjects you to elevated risks of being affected by a plethora of problems such as congenital birth defects, separated parents, being born with an STI, etc. Please read the fine print in the handbook you have been given for more details on what the second option entails.

The latter option.

Next, choose your model's physical, mental, and emotional disposition. Please note that maxing one attribute such as charisma or intellect will leave you with less points to spend on other attributes. You may also randomise.

Randomise.

Finally select your poison-

What?

Your poison. Your flaw. Your dependency. Your crutch to lean on, one that might snap at any moment during your life, and likely result in you terminating yourself.

I wasn't told about any poison?

It's in the fine print, you should have read it.

What?! No!

Regardless of whether or not you read it, you have to choose one. To prevent further interruptions, you will also now be silenced.

(1) Faith in God. During your character's life, your faith will be constantly questioned. If it is broken, you will be left an empty husk of your former self.

(2) Addiction to substances such as alcohol or drugs. This choice will give your character many pleasurable experiences. However, the cost on your mental and physical health is obvious.

(3) Narcissism. Worship of your body, your intellect, your relationships, all that encompasses your being. Opting for this will leave you vulnerable to criticism, the process of ageing, and an omnipresent fear of never feeling adequate.

(4) Need to accumulate wealth and things. Choosing this will give your character an insatiable burning to make more money and obtain more desirous things. You will never have enough, nor feel like you have enough.

(5) Ignorance, this will act as a shield to ward away the unpleasant realities of life. If it is ever penetrated, however, your past actions will appear as egregious mistakes that you will never be able to forgive yourself for making.
